Types of satellite installations
Before exploring types you need to learn the definition of a LNC – a Low Noise Converter or also known as a LNB – a Low Noise Block converter
When the radio signals are received by the satellite dish, they are transferred to the LNB for the purpose of converting the signal frequency. The LNB converts the radio signal to a lower frequency and then amplifies the signal while blocking noise.
Prime Feed Focus dish
A parabolic dish, with a diameter over 1.4 meters where the noise blocker is centrally located which makes it less effective. About 50%
Offset Dish Antenna
With this dish the noise blocker is on the side of the dish and doesn’t interfere with a clear path of the signal which allows for a smaller dish than a prime feed focus dish.
Dual Offset Dish Antenna
This dish is about 80% effective and has two dishes, a smaller one that sends the signal to the noise blocker and a larger receiving one.
Flat Antenna
With this type the noise blocker is located inside the dish rather than the outside which makes it smaller and is best for which is the most compact type of satellite dish. This type of antenna does not have an exterior LNC. It is located within the dish. These types of satellite dishes are best for homes near the middle of a satellites footprint.
