How To Wall Mount A TV

According to a study released on December 2012, in the last ten years the percentage of children dying as a cause of falling television has increased by 10%. The study is aimed at letting parents and children’s caregivers know how hazardous televisions can get if not properly installed or restrained.

The same study, conducted by Safe Kids Worldwide, revealed that a 36-inch TV falling from where it’s installed – around three feet- can create the same impact as a one year old baby falling from the 10th floor. It states that there is a child’s death reported every three weeks, and one is injured every 45 minutes, because of a television tipping over.

If you think you have the expertise and knowledge to do the job, here are our tips and tricks on how to wall mount a TV:

1 Find a good location to mount your TV. Consider the following: height, visibility, glare, sitting areas in the room, electrical outlets.

2 Attach the mounting bracket to your TV set. Remove the TV stand, if there is one. Attach the arms to the holes of the mounting bracket.

3 Attach the mounting bracket to the wall. Locate the studs by using a stud finder on your wall. Mark each stud on the wall with a pencil. Get the distance between the upper and lower holes of both mounting bracket arms. Mark the location of the holes on the wall between the wall studs. Drill the holes on your wall. Attach the bracket plate to the wall with screws or bolts, usually provided in the kit.

4 Connect your wiring and cables . Take note that this is a two-man job.

5 Lock in the TV. This is also a two-man job. Make sure everything is securely attached.

6 Test your TV functions and connection.
